Federico Fellini, Rome, 1940 [about the time of his arrival to Rome] -nd

I didn’t come to Rome to make films. I sort of happened into the cinema; I don’t even think I’ve had teachers. Rossellini was a fundamental influence, because it was when I worked with him that I understood that for me the cinema was not only my best way of expression, but the way of life I liked best. It so happens that for me, with my laziness and my curiosity, film-making — that is, relating my melancholy, my stories — is really the form which suits my temperament best.
